Would you buy property without knowing the value?

A few years ago our county commissioners voted to approve to purchase the old Tecumseh Products property for $2.3 million and did no appraisal. The property was in tax default and would have been able to be purchased for the balance of the tax bill.

They finally did an appraisal 2 years after the purchase and it was valued at $400,000! The commissioners that voted for this were: Commissioners Stimpson, Bales, Bolton, Tilitson, Collins, Lapham, Goetz and Wittenbach. (Goetz was replaced by Martis, Wittenbach was replaced by VanDoren and Lapham was replaced by Krasny)

Lenawee County needs change! As a financial counselor it is my duty to look out for you- it is an oath of ethics I take for my certification. I have always been an advocate of the people and believe in fiscal responsibility. This mismanagement has to stop.
